Last night I was talking to someone at the Washington Project for the Arts / Conner Contemporary Gallery Synchronized Swim Contest and Experimental Video Show at the Capitol Skyline Hotel (Thank god something’s going on in my ZIP Code finally!) and she couldn’t think of what to submit, though she wanted to because they--ZIP Codes--are an interesting idea. After we talked a while she got ideas. Then I took advantage of the frozen drink of some kind that someone offered me and sat down and watched videos. Here’s the kind of conversation the two of us had:

ZIP Codes where you lived and hated it… ZIP Codes where you were born and you long to return to the womb (that place and the real one)… ZIP Codes and the song “Stand in the Place Where You Live.” ZIP Codes and the band the ZIP Code Rapists, though of course why…Have you always worked in the same ZIP Code? What happened when you worked in another ZIP Code? Recreating that warm and fuzzy ZIP Code…that ZIP Code that sucked…that nirvana ZIP Code…that one where you had a peak experience you want to render in video…or mixed media…or words…or oil paints...or an installation…or sound…or whatever…If ZIP codes can be dangerous, of course they can be safe…ZIP Codes and your darkest secret…That was the kind of ZIP Code conversation we had.

I just googled ZIP Code things and got the following: ZIP Codes & losing your virginity--I just googled “define losing” and the 3rd thing that came up was: http://teenadvice.about.com. ZIP Codes CAN BE DANGEROUS TOO—DON’T GO HERE--I just went here —“how-o.ennapl.myftpsite.net/ghelinesthav.html - 3 hours ago” – and it’ was supposed to tell me about how to get a free Itune if I put in my ZIP Code but it took me to some site that tried to harass me into downloading some anti-virus software, THOUGH REALLY MY ANTI-VIRUS SOFTWARE HISSED AT ME AND HAD TO CLEAN THINGS UP AND I’LL NEVER DO IT AGAIN--so yea, ZIP Codes can be dangerous…ZIP Codes and scatter plots (http://books.google.com), though of course why…
Watch out googling ZIP Code stuff—I just got another virus warning…
